Meditation Group

In the business and frenetic pace of our daily lives meditation groups have sprung up over our society and are attracting many people. Some people meditate to relax, others to find peace and some to re-establish a sense of balance and well-being in their daily lives.

Christian meditation which has been part of our Christian tradition since the 4th century has been reignited over the past forty years. The Holy Spirit has moved hundreds of Christians throughout the world to meditate each day. The purpose of Christian meditation is to respond to the Gospel call: ‘to come aside and rest a while.’

Our faith assures us that the Trinity is always present with us, so with faith in the presence of the Divine Indwelling, one seeks a time of silence and solitude to surrender and rest in God’s abiding love. Meditation prayer is a relational prayer; a prayer of listening and receptivity, a time when I commit myself to present and open to God’s healing presence and action in my life. The recommended meditation time is twenty minutes. Participants do speak of a sense of peace, and well being in their lives as they experience the benefits of their meditation but above all they speak of inner healing, freely given by the compassionate presence of our God.

We have two prayer groups in our parish. Both groups meet each week in Sr. Helen’s home (except in school holidays). One group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. The second group meets on Friday mornings at 10.30am. The purpose of these gatherings is to provide some ongoing teaching and support for ones daily practice. These sessions last approximately three quarters of an hour.
